Vertical solar absorber installation -
Solar pool heating systems can be installed in a wide variety of settings.
The highly flexible system from SOLAR-RIPP ® has been used for decades in virtually every type of installation scenario.
For pool owners with limited space, we recommend considering the proven vertical mounting method. In this setup, the RIPPultimate ® solar absorber is installed vertically to act as an "energy fence." Suitable mounting surfaces include masonry walls, building walls, fences, or custom-built support structures made of wood or metal that receive unobstructed sunlight during the day. ☀️
The advantages are obvious: no ground space is required, and installation is particularly easy and ergonomic. When mounted on fences, the system also provides a semi-transparent privacy screen.
Connections to the filtration system are typically made on the same side—either right or left—using the HPRL design. In this setup, a small upper corridor section serves as a smartly integrated return line (offering lower pressure loss than a separate 50mm pipe), while the large main corridor beneath it reduces flow velocity within the ribbed solar hoses, enabling a significant temperature rise. 🌡️
With this installation method, the distribution and collection pipes, as well as the mounting clips, run vertically. SOLAR-RIPP ® recommends spacing the vertical mounting clips at 1/3-meter intervals to prevent the horizontal ribbed solar hoses from sagging.
The cold water inlet is often positioned at a right angle to the mounting surface, connecting to the lower distribution pipe inlet (users frequently select the flow-optimized version 4.8 or 4.9 via the online configurator). A particularly elegant solution is the use of the highly compact 180° bend (5.2) at the upper collection pipe outlet, where the onward hot water return line is easily connected. ⚙️
Integration into the pool filtration circuit is independent of the solar array's installation position and can be managed either manually via ball valves or fully automatically using a solar controller and motorized valve. Notably, the pressure- and vacuum-resistant RIPPultimate ® solar absorber can be installed either above or—in the case of sloped properties—below the pool's water level!
