Place solar temperature sensors correctly
Find the right place for the SOLAR-RIPP solar sensor 🔎
The original SOLAR-RIPP solar controller works with at least two temperature sensors. In this article we explain how to install the outdoor or solar sensor. This sensor is particularly important for the function of the solar controller because it detects and measures whether the sun is shining or not. ☀️ In the solar controller, the value of the solar sensor is compared with the current pool water temperature to decide whether the solar system should run or not. The solar controller does all of this completely independently❗
Please mount the solar sensor on the outside of the outlet manifold of the RIPPultimate solar absorber using a UV-resistant cable tie. The position should be chosen so that the location is not shaded by neighboring houses or trees. 🌳 For the best results, the sensor should be able to be exposed to the sun from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
From our many years of experience, this measuring method has proven to be very effective and is preferable to methods that measure inside the collector. This compensates for various measurement errors and the system starts earlier in the morning because the entire water content does not have to be heated first. 💧This method also offers 100% security with regard to possible sealing problems.

Customize the length of the solar hoses on your SOLAR-RIPP ® solar heater! The solar hose used in the original RIPPultimate solar absorbers is particularly UV-☀️ and chlorine water resistant thanks to Propysol! 💧 Due to the ribbed shape, the unrolled surface is 3.2 times as large as the projected area of the solar hoses. There are several ways to shorten the solar hoses to the right length. For example, you can cut the pipes to the perfect length with a cutter. 🙂 But if you want to make it particularly easy and precise, then use our solar pipe scissors. Temperature difference controller SRCPOOLECO

Expert tip for spring commissioning
A small tip with a big impact! Instead of laying the distribution pipes in a straight line, you can also install them offset in parallel. 📐 If you have a protruding drainage or vent valve, you'll save valuable space. Filling the system, which was drained during the winter, with fresh water in the spring can be easily done using the small hand-held tap connected to a garden hose. 💧 A second, open tap at the end of the collector then allows the air displaced by the water to escape. We recommend installing ball shut-off valves below the supply and return lines to close the pipes during the filling process (otherwise, the water from the garden hose will simply flow into the pool from above). 👍🏻 When water finally flows out of the opposite end instead of air, quickly close the small taps, start the circulation pump, and open the ball valves in the supply and return lines. Important: Please do not open the small valves again. Any remaining air should be completely expelled into the pool over the next few hours. In the fall, the small hand valves on the otherwise closed absorber ends serve to drain water before the forestry season. Integration of the solar heating into the filter circuit with 3-way motor valve
We'll show you a simple example of how to integrate your solar heating into a swimming pool filter circuit with a 3-way motor valve. ⚙️ We are often asked how the RIPPultimate solar absorber should be installed in an existing swimming pool filter circuit. 🤔 The right decision depends on whether the system should be controlled manually, automatically with an extra pump or with a motor valve. In the following example, we describe one possible installation with our 3-way motor valve (ELECAV50LW3C). This is controlled by the controller, which we call the solar controller. The controller (SRC) has two temperature sensors for measuring the swimming pool water temperature (CS) and the solar temperature (SS). 🌡️ If the solar system is to heat the water, the motor valve activates the hot water return to the pool. Without this activation, the water only circulates in the narrower filter circuit. 🔄️ We recommend installing a check valve (CV) in the riser of the cold water inlet to the RIPPultimate solar absorber. This arrangement keeps the water in the solar circuit and does not have to be pumped up again every time it is switched on.
